The horse race between Avatar and The Hurt Locker ended tonight, with The Hurt Locker coming out on top. Katherine Bigelow beat out her ex-husband James Cameron to become the first female to ever win an Academy Award for Best Director. The actors and royalty who mixed yesterday at the world premiere of Peter Jackson’s The Lovely Bones wore sophisticated, glamorous outfits that fit the somber nature of the movie. But not Sophia Hyat. Apparently, Sophia’s the Phoebe Price of England. A semi-celebrity who has a penchant for wearing outlandish outfits to wherever there might be a paparazzo, Sophia graced the carpet in a hot white dress with the words “Honour Killings” scratched across her chest in blood red lipstick. We understand that honor killings are very real and very heinous. But is this about drawing attention to the cause? Or to her bosom? Or maybe a bit of both?

As for bigger celebrities in attendance, Susan Sarandon and Saoirse Ronan rubbed elbows with Prince Charles and Camilla, The Duchess of Cornwall. “Project Runway’s” Nina Garcia said recently that the ’80s are back. So are the ’60s, ’70s and ’90s. But whatever. The new cover of Italian Vogue, featuring Rihanna splashing water from a bucket instead of blocking it with her umbrella, definitely looks like a throwback to ’80s style icon Grace Jones.

In the shoot, by Steven Klein, Rihanna has the same angular makeup, including Grace’s patented Cat Eye on Steroids look. Both Paris Hilton and Nicky Hilton went shopping in L.A. yesterday. Nicky was spotted shopping with her mom for shoes at Christian Louboutin in West Hollywood and Paris hit up a pet store in Beverly Glen, probably buying shi shi treats for her chihuahuas. Both sisters wore large shades and showed off their slender frames with thigh-high summer dresses. While Paris gussied up her outfit with high heels, Nicky went for a more laid back aesthetic by wearing sandals. Which Hilton sister looks hotter?

Designers, models and celebs (Megan Fox, Mickey Rourke, Marion Cotillard and Cate Blanchett) have all descended upon Paris for Fashion Week Haute Couture. Big-time fashion fans might be able to look at creations by Karl Lagerfield or John Galliano and understand the fabrics, the themes and the general excellence of achievement. Kicking off the North American leg of her world tour at Madison Square Garden last night, Beyonce and her alter-ego Sasha Fierce — not to mention a mind-blowing number of costume changes —  proved that they’re putting on the biggest pop music spectacle of the summer. But in terms of sheer sex appeal, Beyonce has some stiff competition from singer/model Ciara, who performed in London earlier this month and will play U.S. venues in July. Both attended the 2009 CFDA Fashion Awards looking perfectly tanned and toned. Blake is pictured wearing a short pink strapless dress that reeks of sex appeal and Whitney is wearing a silver dress that looks sophisticated while hugging her extra long, thin frame. MTV may have flooded its Movie Awards red carpet with a bunch of its own hot young stars (Whitney Port, Lauren Conrad, Jayde Nicole, Lauren Bosworth), but it was the CW’s Leighton Meester who took the crown as the night’s sexiest. The Gossip Girl actress, who co-presented an award with Lil’ Wayne, wore purple suede boots and a black cut-out dress that left little to the imagination — so little that we all know now what Leighton would look like in her undies! When we think of Katy Perry, we think of a naturally sexy girl  with an innocent, quirky persona. But Complex Magazine has captured Katy in a different light for its June/July issue. Not only does she say that T.I. is “really cute” and her boyfriend Travis McCoy was “always a butt guy until he met me,” but Katy also says goodbye to colorful sundresses and pink bows and hello to S&M brassieres, booty shorts, thigh-high stockings and handcuffs. Of the photo shoot, Katy says:

It’s a bit of a darker side of me, a little S&M. Though I did have to hang from a cage, which could have easily gone wrong with the five-inch heels I was wearing.
